miles doo-bop acrylic...

My painting titled Miles doo-bop is hommage to Miles Davis and the doo-bop album (1992) and the photographer of the doo-bop album cover, Annie Leibovitz, and the doo-bop cover itself.  In the grand day of Blue Note Records, Blue Note jazz album covers were (and still are) considered art - no less the Miles doo-bop album cover, in my mind.  So, this painting is with Miles and doo-bop in mind.  doo-bop was Miles's last studio album - just six tracks had been finished when he died.  The rest of the album was made with some unreleased trumpet recordings. -P.D.

the winter fly the march series hommage to jack kerouac and spring...

March 15,
et tu
winter fly.

March Madness,
the winter fly
agrees.

For the Final Four,
the winter fly
morphs into the spring fly.

March 17,
the winter fly
is Irish too.

The first day of spring,
the winter fly
takes a lave of absence.

Swing into spring,
the winter fly,
Teddy Wilson & Gene Krupa.

Come fly, come fly,
the winter fly
flies down to Acapulco Bay.

& a little glass of wine,
the winter fly
holds court at Symphony Hall.

Spring can really hang you up,
the winter fly
buzzes a clothesline.

March winds April showers,
the winter fly
returns to Capistrano.

Springtime in the Rockies,
the winter fly
in disguise.

the winter fly hommage to jack kerouac and jazz...

The winter fly
one more time once,
as Basie would say.

Fiddling with the mouthpiece,
the winter fly
squeaks.

Banter & clanking glasses,
the winter fly
scolds the front three tables.

Singling out be-bop,
the winter fly
uttered it ruined jazz.

Pete Barbutti called out How High the Moon,
the winter fly
asked in what key?

Pete Barbutti answered
the winter fly,
Hey Man I'm a mechanic.

That year at the Roxy at Newport & around,
the winter fly
played back-to to the audience.

At Club Coca Cola,
the winter fly
meets Dizzy for the first time.

At the Blue Note,
the winter fly
told Ralph Sharon not to leave without signing the guitar player.

In Times Square,
the winter fly
bought a new horn,
- - it was Sonny Rollins's second choice.

Mister Kelly's presents, Miss Anita O'Day...,
the winter fly
suffers a coughing spell.

The contract required arriving at 2,
the winter fly
went on stage at 8.

Further,
the winter fly
demanded Louis the XIV in his dressing room.

A water glass filled with Wild Turkey,
the winter fly
complained of a toothache.

the winter fly hommage to jack kerouac and baseball...

62 degrees,
the winter fly
reports to spring training.

62 degrees,
the winter fly
steals home.

Crossing home plate,
the winter fly
tips his hat to the crowd.

62 degrees,
the winter fly
signs an autograph.

62 degrees,
the winter fly
points to the right field bleachers.

62 degrees,
the winter fly
breaks off a chaw of Red Man.

62 degrees,
the winter fly
runs in from the bullpen.

3 & 2 & 2 out the bottom of the ninth,
the winter fly
is on deck.

Christina Aguilera finishes up the national anthem,
the winter fly
takes the field.

From the dugout,
the winter fly
chatters batta batta batta.
